Hey There!

I have wondered if anyone even noticed Green Cathedral had gone! I know it seemed that we had just vanished into ‘The Wild’ for a little while.

In more than one way, I guess we did.

Due to the ever increasing rents in Noosa, we made the (very difficult) decision to move our workshop further down the coast and for the next couple of years, our furniture will be manufactured in Burnside.

We LOVE Noosa! We will continue to live and raise our family in Noosa and we will forever be a Noosa brand at heart…However our balance sheet LOVES the additional $35k a year (which is how much we are saving on rent)!

It is our hope to eventually build a shed at home, bringing Green Cathedral full-circle – albeit this time the shed will much bigger than the little green one Tim started GC in 10 years ago.

If you have followed our journey (Road Not Taken P1 & P2) you would know a little of the struggle we have been through these past few years:

  • The attempt to obtain a work/life balance.
  • Pressures with the rapid growth of GC, from a start-up in our back shed to what it became
  • Opening two Design Galleries – One in another state (what were we thinking?),
  • Moving (Upsizing) workshops 6 times!
  • Managing up to 10 staff

All whilst trying to keep 3 kids (now 16, 11 & 4) alive and somewhat happy…if you have ever lived with a teenage daughter you know that it is no easy feat!

I have always been open and honest about our journey, but as I like to keep it classy,  all I will say about the past 6 months is that they were F**CKING hard!! Running a small creative (manufacturing) business in this country (from a ‘rural’ town) is F**KING hard!! Running it with your husband adds a whole other level of F**KING hard on top of that (you can read that blog post here)!!

On the Green Cathedral journey, we have had massive highs and we have hit rock-bottom. However, we have always strived to create a business and a product that is embedded with our values of: Integrity, Quality, Creativity, Authenticity, Innovation and the most important of all, Love.

We would not be in this position today if it was not for the love and support of our parents, family and friends. We certainly would not have had the heart to continue this journey if it wasn’t for so many of our customers encouraging us on and their continued support.

Every early morning, late night and/or weekend Tim spent in the workshop designing and creating our furniture, the time and energy spent in the attempt to exceed our clients expectations. It has all been done in the belief that each minute is a minute not spent with our kids or each other. What we create now will be the legacy that we leave them with in the future.

And if that is not love, then I don’t know what is!

Sal xx
